African History Month – In a Kalinda session

African History Month – In a Kalinda session for young people in a school in Morvant. Kalinda is an ancient martial arts from Central and West Africa, and other parts of the continent. It was practised by the enslaved in the form of a fight dance with songs, dances and combat using sticks. This tradition survives in TT, and is fought in arenas called Gayelles. Due to the French influence we call the sticks used in the ritual as Bois, meaning wood. In our cultural organisation, we use Kalinda to teach discipline, focus and teamwork. Give thanks for our rich heritage and culture. Give thanks for Kalinda. Ase
